The 10's
Inception
Plot: Dominic Cobb runs an organization of espionage and spies. But it’s nowhere near as simple as that. He works in dreams. After one of his targets offers him a deal he can’t refuse, Cobb gathers a team to plant an idea in another persons mind. But to do so they need to go three levels deep and perform a concept so elaborate that only one person has done it before.
Total gross: $825,532,764
Personal thoughts: This is a masterpiece of a movie from the get go you know that something is off you just cant tell what it is yet. Once the crew is fully assembled the movie kicks into full gear for the remaining two hours. Leonardo Dicaprio portrays Cobb excellently in all the pain that that character is in. on top of all that the Inception looks visually pleasing with all the buildings crashing down on and folding in on each other.
Sing Street
Plot: A boy starting out at an all boy prep school meets a girl whom he lies to and tells her that he’s in a band. He then makes a band and builds a reputation for himself in the school and the Headmaster is not pleased with this sudden rebellion.
Total gross: $13,624,522
Personal thoughts: I love this movie because it truly feels like something I would do [start a band just to impress a girl]. The movie is a massive message saying that music helps people get through times whether they’re good or bad. I think that this should’ve won an Oscar [for any of the original songs]. My favorite character
Guardians of the Galaxy
Plot: Peter Quill, aka Starlord, finds a mysterious orb that led him to be chased by Ronan the Accuser. He then meets a rag tag crew of not-exactly-good people but they could just be the Guardians that this Galaxy needs.
Total gross: $773,328,629
Personal thoughts: I saw the first trailer and was instantly hyped. I read a massive amount of comics in preparation to go see it and when I finally did my expectations were blown out of the water. Starlord and the rest of the cast are propelled through the story with the solid foundation of the AWESOME soundtrack booming at every moment. If I had to choose one favorite character I would tell you that I couldn’t choose because they are all so epic.
Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2
Plot: After the death of a good friend, Harry, Ron and Hermione go to Hogwarts to build an army to confront the dark lord in the final stand.
Total gross: $1,341,511,219
Personal Thoughts: I put this in here because I needed to pay tribute to one of my favourite book and movie series. This one is insane in its action and revelations; I will never forget that one thing with Snape [trying to avoid spoilers]. The ending of it all is so satisfying that you if you haven’t seen these movies you should stop everything that your doing and go see them… what are you still doing there, stop reading this and go watch these movies.
Moonlight
Plot: Told over three periods of Chirons life that starts when he is a child. A softhearted drug dealer named Juan picks him up after bullies chase Chiron into a drug den. Afterwards Juan becomes a father figure and tries to guide him on the path of the righteous man. During his mid teens he deals with his sexuality and his crack addict mother. As an adult he meets with an old friend.
Total gross: $26,994,479
Personal thoughts: I had to watch this movie after the huge Oscar loss… I mean win [had to throw that in there]. This is not a movie for people who enjoy musicals with animated characters and a happy time because this movie is about this boy who is born into the wrong community. The whole time I was rooting for this character to not fall into the exact thing that Juan didn’t want him to but the destiny that was carved into stone when he was born is a hard thing to brake. My favorite character in the entire film has to be Mahershala Ali as Juan just because he seems to truly care for this boy and Naomi Harris as Paula portrays the opposite, as she seems to truly hate her son. Overall this is definitely better than La La Land.
