The 80's

Ferris Buellers Day Off

Plot: Ferris Bueller is on his ninth “sick” day of his final semester in high school and plans to make it one to remember. Together with his friend Cameron they bust out Ferris’s girlfriend, Sloane, and have the time of their lives.

Total grossing: $70,136,369

Personal thoughts: Bueller… Bueller…Bueller. I will be saying that in classrooms until the day I die. This movie details Ferris’ last day off before the end of high school. The entire movie you feel like you want to do this someday, I mean who wouldn’t want to trick their principal and spend the day taking advantage of the city. Ferris feels like a best friend because of the 4th wall breaking commentary. With this movie you have fun and learn that life moves pretty fast so if you stop and take a look around once in a while you could miss it.

The Breakfast Club

Plot: One Saturday morning five students have detention for a multitude of reasons. They all start out not talking to each other, planning to go through the day without interactions with the other students, but with a little encouragement from the criminal, they end up wearing their hearts on the sleeves. Unsure what will happen come Monday morning?

Total gross: $45,875,171

Personal thoughts: I watched this movie back when I was in grade 6 but didn’t get most of it, I recently rewatched it and it is an excellent movie. I never got how Bender is abused at home or how Brian was going to shoot himself.  The entire movie you feel each of them warm up to and eventually become closer than they could’ve thought on a Saturday morning spent in detention. I especially love the ending; I won’t be forgetting them anytime soon.

Back to the Future

Plot: Marty McFly's life is a dump. His father is constantly bullied by his boss and his mother is an alcoholic. But when his friend, Doc Brown, invents a time machine he may have a chance to fix all of that…

Total grossing: $385,524,862

Personal thoughts: This is a special movie because while I was younger my dad would always tell me about the “Back to the Future” movies, so when I got a little older I found the three of them on marathon on space. I watched all three of them and I was in awe of their AWESOMENESS. This movie is an incredibly fun adventure that spans time and every time someone asks me what movie they should watch if they want light hearted sci-fi I send them to this movie.

E.T.

Plot: After a gentle alien is stranded on earth he befriends a little boy named Elliot.

Total Grossing: $792,965,326

Personal thoughts: This movie casts a spell of childish wonder over anyone who watches it. E.T is adorable, he is curious about the world and the fact that a little boy is the perfect tour guide of earth, is amazing. When the government comes and takes E.T you actually feel hurt on the inside. There aren’t many movies that have made me feel so much for an alien.

Blade Runner

Plot: in the year 2019 replicants have been banned from earth. But when five escaped from the holding facility on mars a retired blade runner is called back in to hunt down and exterminate all of them.

Total grossing: $33,139,618

Personal thoughts: Deckard is probably my favourite Harrison Ford role ever. He is very rough but an incredible detective. The movie is set in one of the most interesting places in all of movie history. This is a dystopian movie done right and I think that more should follow in the footsteps of this movie. Final note, I am so excited for blade runner 2049
